ice queen

I thought today's outfit seemed really whimsical and fun. Pairing navy, gray, and black makes for a very interesting combination, very winter appropriate.
flat black boots: Return Passage
double pairs (for added warmth!!) black opaque tights: Target
gray mini skirt: JCrew
navy crinkle blouse: JCrew
black grandpa cardigan: Hallelu
icy necklace: Old Navy
Yes, my boot did get suck in the tree... the price we pay for a cool picture?

K Lou busted out this sweet suede skirt, I'm never sure where she hides these things!
On K Lou:
gray shimmer tights: Target
gray suede skirt: Target
light gray riding blazer: Banana Republic
cluster pearl necklace: Belks

black heeled boots: Nordstroms

uptown girls, downtown charm

Today we headed to the ever-lovely, ever-under construction historic downtown Wilmington. This year will mark our second year participating in the Martin Luther King Day parade and we needed to work out some final details. We've been looking forward to it all year, more on that later this week.
Our appointment brought us to the Hannah Block 2nd Street Community Arts center -a favorite of my youth
as well as the New Hanover County Public Library -where K Lou wowed me with her extensive knowledge of the Dewey decimal system.
During our increasingly elaborate photo shoot a tugboat began showing off for us! The captain even said hello over the loudspeaker, how's that for southern hospitality?

Today I'm wearing:
white tissue turtleneck: JCrew
black tulip skirt: Target
very berry "premium" tights: Target

taupe suede flower shoes: 007 -which is now gone, but they're irregular choice brand
gray grandpa cartigan: JCrew
pouf headband: JCrew
black coat: Forever21
gray satchel bag: Banana Republic
necklace: gift from K Lou
bracelet (that broke during pictures): JCrew

K Lou is wearing:

retro sunglasses: Steve Madden brand
gray wrap cardigan: Target
black & white marbled sweater dress: Forever21
black turtleneck: ? no label, beats us!

Red Suede Gloves: Issac Mizrahi for Target
Charm bracelet: gift from Aunt Krissy

Electric blue tights: Marshalls
Cream cable knit knee socks: Marshalls
Grey boots: Target

a serious date

The hubs and I had a date night last night. We headed to UNCW's Lumina Theatre and saw the new Cohen Brother's movie, A Serious Man.
The movie was set in the 1960's and I wanted to dress the part -but still stay warm, I think it was a success.

My colorblock dress is from Hallelu; textured tights and coat from Forever21; belt and pin are vintage from Momma K.

My very 1960's bag is from my favorite, Bargin Box.
After the movie we headed downtown to the Soapbox to catch a Caberet show -and it was truly awesome
Folks give Wilmers a bad wrap, but there are some seriously cool things coming down the pipeline and it's up to Wilmingtonians to support these things, come on people!!!

s(no) bunnies

New Hanover County Schools were on a two hour delay this morning. because of the snow. all of the snow all over the ground. true story.
As you can plainly see, there is no snow.
Oh well, hopefully we looked cute despite what would have been a terrific background

Island Passage is having an after Christmas sale, thus my "high school hot chick" jacket.
All the really hot chicks in high school had furry collard jackets, I may be channeling my inner mean girl...
My pants are the toothpick jeans from JCrew, boots are Target from two years ago.

K Lou looks too cool in her white pea coat and black velvet mini from JCrew.
AND
Check out these PYT's. RIP MJ. We'll never forget.

Ribbon necklace from Forever 21. Vintage bumblebee pin from back in the day.
It's Friday. We've done one whole week of entries.
Frankly, we're starting to crack already.
See below.

Happy Friday!
See ya next week.

eighties nouveau

I'm not quite sure I matched today. Brown and black, isn't that like plaid and stripes? Can you do that?! Yikes, I did it.
I bought this dress recently from Island Passage and my goal was to dress it down, I think the varnished gold key necklace (from Target) and bracelet (Christmas gift from the Hubs) helps to achieve said goal.
When I left for work today my huz said, "oh man, I'm really loving this new tights tread."

me too, babe, me too.
As per our actual job we deal with a lot of wedding photographers, thus we see a ton of the bridal party jump shot, see below. It's usually this absurd.

How cool is K Lou's jacket? It was absolutely the inspiration for today's posting, folks keep saying the eighties are back and if this is any indicator -I'm in.

Love how the boots and neutral details offset the boldness of the jacket.
K Lou said, "I think I stole this from Grandma." -Nice

We're having tons of fun with the weather being so cold, its a great chance to get out some unique accessories.
How's our landing pose? Dare I say Carrie Strug?

school girl chic

K Lou and I had a surprise visitor today!
Susan stopped by, supposedly inspired by our first two posts!
(yay! Someone is actually looking!!!)
Of course we asked her to join us...
It's pretty funny how themed we all were today. Very much school girl chic, but obviously not in a skanky way. It's not really possible these days because it is still unbelievably cold!!! We're embracing bundling hard core.

My outfit started with my red penny loafers, which hide in my closest quite a bit because they're so long (as are my feet), but paired with trouser style jeans they worked pretty well.

The scarf is stolen from my husband, he always brags that it is "real Irish wool." Impressive, huh?
Jeans are from Banana Republic, loafers, sweater, and tweed jacket all from JCrew, pearls are stolen from K Lou.
My favorite parts of this outfit are definitely the honor student broach from my great-grandmother -no surprise that I come from a family of geniuses, right?
I also love love love love the red ribbon clips. They're from Forever21 and they were only $1.50. Can't beat that, plus I'm totally having a 500 days of summer moment. -In my opinion.

K Lou brought out her newest Bargain Box purchase, an amazing camel colored coat. I swear it's even prettier in person.
Her dress is from Island Passage, as are her boots.
They're a beautiful reddish-brown and they seriously match everything. I'm not sure how it's possible, but it is..
This navy blue suede belt was also from the Bargain Box!
Vintage shopping is awesome!!
But without a doubt the best part of K Lou's outfit was the amazing cocktail ring. You could really knock someone out with this sucker.
It's from JCrew and is one of the best purchases ever made. Their jewerly is always on point. -In my opinion.

Susan came in and announced "jean jackets are back!"
Thank god!
I love a good jean jacket, in fact I've had my eye on the Rodarte for Target one...
Susan's fits really nicely, which is key, I guarentee the oversized jean jacket won't be back any time soon... or at least I hope.
Love the Leopard detail!!

Her boots were from Francisca's in Mayfaire. Very cute.

Thanks to Susan for stopping by today! We're so excited someone is checking this thing out!
