blood, sweat, and tears baby

oh hey. Have you missed me?
All eight of you?
Well, I've missed you too AND I have a perfectly good excuse for my absence. I ran marathon. -well that's a lie.
It was a 1/2 marathon, but what have you done lately?
The Hubs and I did it together.
It wasn't romantic and we weren't very well, scratch that, we were not prepared at all.

In retrospect, it is a terrible idea to wait until the week-of to train for a half marathon.
FYI.
But, we made it, we certainly didn't win, I certainly didn't look cool or stylish
-a break from the norm, I know.

But, they did give us participation medals
-KLou was very impressed with the quality of said medals

13.1 Miles. I even beat a few elderly women, more probably beat me, but what-evs.

At around mile 11, aforementioned elderly woman decides to strike up a freaking conversation. Did you miss that, mile 11 e-l-e-v-e-n.

Yes, seriously. I have no idea why. I don't think I looked like I wanted to chat, but nonetheless she started: "so, is this your first marathon."

Yes, can't you tell. I'm about to keel over and die

"Are you doing it alone or with someone?" she pressed on

My inner monologue is somewhere between shut the f up and die bitch die, but I answered. "I'm doing it with my husband, he's ahead of me"

"Oh" she said, "I almost got divorced around mile 8 of one of these things."

Oh, you don't say.
It was at that point when I mustered energy from somewhere and got the hell away from her. and we didn't get a divorce.

All and all a very productive day.

tight tribute

Yesterday, I finally loaded up the collected prom dresses and brought them down to W.H.A.T. Today is the Prom Dress Swap -at Independence Mall, from 4-7. I am very excited, we've collected loads of dresses and I think it will be a very successful event.

As far as outfits go, I'm trying really hard to 'spring foward.' It's still been pretty chilly so I have to take advantage of tights for as long as I can. Some of my pairs are slowly disintegrating, but they've had good lives, they've done some serious stylin'

The thing I’m going to miss about the cold weather is tights, nylons, stockings, panty hose –whatever you want to call them, I appreciate them. Not only for their warming agent, but also for the color and texture they bring to an outfit. Furthermore, they feel lady like –even when you’re wearing shorts. I imagine ladies back in the day also enjoying all that tights have to offer..

Also, when I dropped off the dresses at W.H.A.T, a teenage boy told me he liked my nylons very much -It isn't everyday I get noticed by a teenage boy. Lucky me...

bright ideas

folks come into the office and do some pretty weird things. For example: this particular gentleman came into the office in search of a custom shower curtain. He turned this staged picture of a colonscopy into a shower curtain. Yup. For real. I'm not making this up...
how could I?

Anyways, a few weeks later I got this email from him -securing his title of "customer of the week"

Molly,

The shower curtain was a huge success. I intend to get a "liner for it" but I am waiting until Bed-Bath-and-Beyond" sends me one of those 15% off coupons to either me or "Current Resident." I was thinking, however, that it would be really cool to be able to create a 'FLAG" with whatever anybody wants. I imagine it could be technically more difficult. But if I had that picture flying over my house, nobody would get lost, particularly on a very windy day. Is such a thing possible? Maybe you could talk to Jeb about this. We could pretend it's your idea. That way, if the idea is technically feasible and a potential money maker, you could get the credit, and maybe be promoted and get "a raise." If the idea is really dumb, then he could think less of you, rather than me.

U'ncle Jeff

amazing, right?
-oh and for the record: this man is not my uncle

march forward

oh hey ya'll.
missed you last week, but we're back and better than ever. wah wah -corny much?

March has arrived which means several things:
1. shamrock shakes -hello minty goodness
2. spring break. wooo hooo! -I understand that this means nothing to most people, but the Huz is a teacher so that means serious quality time (for me!), which I am a big fan of. We might try to take a road trip to Athens, GA. BECAUSE HE WAS ACCEPTED TO UGA FOR A PHD! whoop! whoop! He is such a little smarty pants.
3. further infiltration of Spring/Summer 2010 -meanwhile the weather forecast is still for snow (annoying, right?) I'm ready to bust out some shorts, we live in coastal North Carolina for cryin' out loud
4. The Huz and I are running a 1/2 marathon on the 21st. I'm getting pretty worried, this could make or break us. Literally, I'm so sore, I feel broken. 20 days and counting....
5. My goal for March is to re-do/re-organize our utility room a la Martha Stewart -I am dying to be one of those amazingly organized people. The idea of an organized house makes me really happy. Strangely happy.

Moving forward to: the outfits -in the spirit of Marching Forward
I learn a lot from ole K Lou, she is truly the master of transitional styling. Specifically, she can integrate pops of color into a seemingly "winter" outfit. See below and prepare to be impressed.

oh hey gurl. I like yo tights. you look fine. See what she did here? Bright blue tights scream spring, hear that? sprrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiingggggggg. sprrrrrrriiiiiiiiinnngggggg. Am I being too weird? Back on track: check the gingham print shirt, do you love it? I do. I'm pretty sure it's a spring trend and if it isn't, it should be. Someone get Jenna Lyons on the phone, stat!

blue tights -Marshalls, white skirt -Jcrew, gingham shirt -Kohls, black cardigan -the Gap, black flower (so goth, right?) -forever 21, patent leather mary janes -TJ Maxxx, blue belt -bargain box

I have the same pair of patent mary janes and I keep pushing them away with an inner monologue that goes something like this: "those are too holiday-ie, you can't wear those in Spring, fool." K Lou laughs in the face of my inner monologue. Her mary janes are made for walkin' anytime of year, all it takes is a little cre-ate-iv-it-eeeeee.

oh hey, my turn? ok. lets do this thing. I spent way too much time Saturday looking a pictures of Jackie O. I doubt anyone would debate her claim to fashion royalty, I'm certainly not going to. What really inspired me was her style -after Camelot. dun dun dunnnnn. Seriously though, Jackie after JFK, seventies Jackie. cOOl. very cOOl. The kind of cOOl that warrants copying and uppercase o's.
check the trench. so cOOl, so spring, so awesome. so seventies? I think the hair down, aviators, and geometric skirt helped my case. I find sometimes it can be tough to wear a skirt this length and still look young and fresh, I think the boots helped the skirt find some "edge."

I'm also a huge fan of the geometric pattern to the skirt. It looks vintage, without the polyester (yay!).

black boots -banana republic, pattern skirt -the Gap, teal sweater -Jcrew, trench -old navy, scarf -street vendor, aviators -Ray Ban

K Lou said this should be my head shot. for what I asked?
in general, she said.
awesome. Do you have an "in general" head shot? K Lou thinks you should.
